New Owners Keep the Love Flowing at Larder
New owners, Kylie and Dennis Bastos are keeping the love – and the coffee – flowing at popular Coolangatta eatery, Griffith St Larder at The Strand.
Hailing from the caffeine capital of Melbourne where they ran a Collingwood café for 10 years, Kylie and Dennis have opted for the ultimate sea change – swapping city life for sea breezes and relocating their young family to the southern Gold Coast.
Their emphasis is fast, fresh and affordable options for locals and visitors who are seeking simple flavours made from quality, local ingredients.
“We try to source as much from the local region as possible,” says Kylie. “Our signature cronuts, cakes and treats are all baked on site daily. I think you can always tell when something is baked in-house, rather than being brought in – so we aim to produce as much as we can here to ensure the quality is maintained and the food tastes great.”
For local fans of the popular Gold Coast coffee enterprise, you’ll be happy to know Griffith St Larder is still serving their signature Blackboard Coffee. The sustainably sourced Fair Trade beans have been keeping the Coolangatta crowd contentedly caffeinated since Larder first opened.
Kylie and Dennis also plan to keep delivering the menu favourites, with an increased focus on offering healthy options. “Our Bread or Bowl menu will expand to include more salad options, so customers can choose their base and build it up from there, adding their choice of protein and toppings.”
But their cabinet of decadent treats will continue to be stocked with a selection of freshly baked cakes and slices that range from naughty to nice.
“A lot of our customers love coming in for coffee and cake, so we’ve got the really naughty, decadent cakes for when they want to indulge as well as gluten free and raw sugar options for the more health conscious foodies.”
Griffith St Larder is open 7 days a week at The Strand at Coolangatta from 7am.
